The Consulate General of Angola in Lisbon, Portugal, suffered a cyber attack on December 16, where the computer attack left the base of the consulate badly damaged, reveals the New Journal.

According to that Angolan weekly, having as a source a computer technician from the Consulate of Angola, the “attack was external and organized by hackers” with a large contribution from people inside the national diplomatic institution, with the aim of erasing documents and data that compromise the previous management of the consulate, namely, the management of Narciso do Espírito Santo Júnior.

For several analysts heard by Novo Jornal, this hacker attack is a clear and perfect “file burning”, since due to this cyberattack, several services of the Consulate General of Angola, in that European country, were completely obselete for more than a month, and where approximately two weeks ago, the Consulate's computer system recovered from the attack, where currently it is in a state of "update and observation".

BUT: What is known (so far) about the cyberattack on Vodafone Portugal

From what is known so far, the cyber attack that the Consulate General of Angola in Lisbon suffered, allowed that various documents such as ballot, birth certificate, power of attorney, marriage process, safe-conduct, invoices and payment records, proofs and other accounting records were completely “off” of the system, and so far there is still no full and official assessment of the damage caused by this computer attack.

"This attack was very well targeted, and purposeful, because the new consul general wants to terminate the contract with the current company that provides IT services (STEP- AHEAD CONSULTING). Erase everything to leave no traces. The big question now will be how they will prove that it was an external attack and not an intentional destruction of data, since they had no backups. All this has led to several ongoing internal investigations. It was important to get a final report on this attack.”, revealed a source to the Angolan weekly.

It should be noted that in recent weeks, several entities in Portugal have suffered cyberattacks, Espresso, parliament website e Vodafone, and where the security forces say they are already working "to better understand” the magnitude and impact of these incidents.
