Less Yarn's Office: 7 Things You Should Never Share Online

2939

As we have already informed, the month of October is considered as the Cybersecurity Month, where during this period and largely because of our social responsibility, we always alert our readers to always be very careful when “surf" on the Internet.

The new coronavirus has accelerated the digitization of practically all areas of society and, today, it is possible to make supermarket purchases over the internet, but also order medication at the pharmacy or even solve more bureaucratic issues.

All these services involve the sharing of data and, if we also add social networks, there are several pieces of information that we, without realizing it, end up sharing, even though we know that not everything should be shared.

It is based on your security that the newsroom of Menos Fios together with the newspaper the vanguard, in today's edition of Consultório Menos Fios, we show seven data that should not be shared under penalty of negative consequences such as cyber attacks or attempted fraud.

BUT: Less Fios Office: 8 tips to take good care of your smartphone

So, good reading and make sure you don't share your data below again:

1 - Mobile number or email

For many, this is the most difficult data to follow, since nowadays it has become customary to indicate the mobile number and/or email for registration in almost every website on the internet. But unfortunately when we share the phone number we are subject to spam, phishing or other computer attacks. The writing of Menos Fios recommends the creation of an email address exclusively for online registrations.

2 – Address

We also don't recommend sharing your address, especially if it's really your address. On this same path, we do not advise showing the location in real time or even signaling places frequented frequently. Unfortunately this is the kind of information that makes it easier for potential burglars to follow someone's moves and figure out when the best time is to try to rob a house.

3 – Photographs of minors

It may be impossible to control our urge to share with the world the recent arrival of the newest member of the recent family, or even a photograph that shows how funny it is, we strongly recommend that you limit that urge. You never know how far this photo we share will end up, so if you want to share, we recommend that you at least cover the face of the child in question.

4 – Compromising photos

Still talking about sharing documents, we also do not advise sharing images that can be compromising, in the present or in the future, namely photographs of an intimate or sexual nature. These can pose a threat at a certain time, even when they are published from private profiles.

5 – Personal documents

Revealing your ID card number or photograph – or another document with our data on it – opens the door to identity theft. The same applies to driving licenses, employment contracts and bank details, that is, these documents must be left out of online sharing.

6 – Private conversations

Just as you should not share photographs without your consent, neither should a conversation that was held in a private forum be made public. Even sharing screenshots (screenshots) of small conversations, for example, should be out of the question.

7 – Opinions, complaints and compromising comments

Finally, sometimes it is very common to use the internet to leave criticisms or complaints, but we do not recommend the use of this either. As mentioned above, a comment on social media can make someone offended, for example, resulting in a virtual war that can cause problems for the Internet user.

That was the Top 7 of things you shouldn't share on the internet. Now, we ask our readers to comment on them and to contribute additional information they deem necessary on this same topic.

Any and all questions you would like to see answered here should be posted on the exclusive communication channel dedicated to the Menos Fios office.
