Users often only look at the screen resolution, as well as the physical size of the TV, whether it fits on top of the cabinet or looks good in a certain area of the room, as the main purchasing factors. You need to know how to adapt the television to the useful space in the living room, especially when you sit on the sofa to watch your favorite series or films, or even play on the consoles.
To help evaluate the space to receive a new television, in today's MenosFios Consultancy we brought a small guide from TCL, considering the type of use it will be used for. The brand says that choosing the correct size helps you get the best experience possible. For the manufacturer, there are some issues to consider in the choice process.
"There is a lot of debate about what size this should have, however, the discussion is only about the physical size, with only the size of the TV as a variable, without ever taking into account whether the size is suitable for the space that will be in it.”, in what you consider to be the distance between the device and the sofa.
It states that the distance does not only depend on the size and resolution, but the position of the equipment in the user's viewing angle. This affects the immersion of the content that is consumed, giving an example of what happens to the sound systems and the direction in which it is projected. The viewing angle is an aspect that is even approved as recommendations by the most important cinema technology entities.
The Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers (SMPTE) recommends a coverage of 30º of the field of view as the minimum for content consumption. On the other hand, THX recommends a 40º viewing angle coverage for consuming films and series.
In the proposed table you can see the relationship between the size of the televisions in terms of inches and the respective recommended distance, either for an angle of 30 or 40º. For example, small 25-inch screens should be located at a distance of between 1,04 meters and 77 cm. But if you plan to install a giant 85-inch screen, the distance you sit in front of it must be at least 2,59 meters away.
