The iPhone 16 is now a reality. Given this, you're probably asking yourself a question: will the new features be enough to justify an upgrade over the iPhone 15? To help you out, in today's MenosFios Consulting we'll show you the main differences between the two models.
With each new generation of iPhone, Apple increases the performance of its devices, and the iPhone 16 is no exception. Equipped with the A18 Bionic chip, the iPhone 16 outperforms the A16 in the iPhone 15. This SoC offers 30% more speed and consumes 30% less energy than its predecessor, according to the company itself, which translates into greater efficiency in everyday use.
Additionally, the iPhone 16 includes improvements to the neural engine, which increases the number of cores to better support Apple's Artificial Intelligence (AI) functions, a technology that plays an important role in the new generation of these smartphones.
When it comes to battery life, while the iPhone 15 offers up to 20 hours of use, the iPhone 16 increases this number to 22 hours, which is a significant improvement. In addition, the charging speed of the new smartphone has doubled, with 27 W for wired charging and 15 W for Qi-compatible wireless charging (up to 25 W via MagSafe).
The screens
The iPhone 16 maintains the same size and resolution with the 6,1-inch Super Retina XDR. While some may have expected an improvement in refresh rate, it remains at 60Hz on both models. This may be disappointing, as many competitors offer 120Hz refresh rates on their top-end devices.
Like the iPhone 15, the iPhone 16 offers up to 2000 nits of peak brightness and maintains the Dynamic Island feature that Apple introduced in the previous generation. However, the new smartphone from the Cupertino company no longer lacks the always-on display function, a feature previously reserved for the Pro models.
The design also has some differences
Apple had already redesigned the iPhone 15, introducing more rounded edges and color-infused aluminum glass, along with Dynamic Island. The iPhone 16 maintains this design approach, but adds new features inspired by the Pro models, such as the Action button.
Another significant change is the inclusion of the camera control button, located below the power button. This makes it easier to access when taking photos and allows you to activate the shutter to take photos, zoom in and out using gestures, and focus on objects more easily, something that will be especially useful for photography enthusiasts.
Additionally, Apple has gone back to vertically aligning the rear cameras on the iPhone 16, in contrast to the diagonal design of the 15.
iPhone 16 vs. iPhone 15: Built-in cameras
While both devices have a 48MP main camera and a 12MP ultra-wide-angle camera, according to the American company, the new smartphone introduces improvements in low-light photography and autofocus on the ultra-wide-angle camera – this solves the blurring issues.
Additionally, the iPhone 16 incorporates support for macro photography, allowing you to capture more details in close-ups, a feature that was not present in the previous model.
Software and artificial intelligence
One of the biggest differences between the iPhone 16 and the iPhone 15 is the inclusion of Apple Intelligence, a generative AI system that improves various features of the device.
Although this technology is more focused on the Pro models, the entry-level version of Apple smartphones also takes advantage of some of these innovations, which allow for everything from automatic text rewriting to image generation using descriptions.
