The Data Protection Agency (APD) expresses concern about the lack of legalization of databases in Angola. The information was expressed by José Nkombo, Head of the Agency's Inspection Department during the CyberSecur Summit 2023, in Luanda, when addressing personal data protection issues.

In his presentation, José Nkombo began to highlight the progress observed in the country, mainly in relation to the implementation of regulatory laws in the sector. He emphasized that APD is dedicated to positioning the country in the international sphere of data protection.

In this sense, the person responsible mentioned that they have already established partnerships with African countries, especially Portuguese-speaking ones, such as Cape Verde and São Tomé and Príncipe. Furthermore, negotiations are currently underway for cooperation agreements with Portugal and Spain, on the African continent.

The Head of the Inspection Department of the public entity responsible for regulating the data sector in the country also expressed his concern about the excessive collection of citizens' data, carried out without reason, justification and without the consent of the holders.

For José Nkombo, the ideal practice would be for organizations to request only the data necessary for their specific operations. And it also highlighted one of the main concerns of the sector, being the recurring identity theft through social networks and electronic devices.

Another point highlighted was the issue of data hosting abroad, regarding which the APD issued a warning. Although the current legal system does not prohibit this practice, the person responsible emphasized the importance of following the rules when choosing to store your company's data in another country.

With regard to information security measures, José Nkombo made a complaint, pointing out that there are public and private companies that lack information security systems, thus becoming vulnerable to cyber attacks.
