The Oxford English Dictionary, for the first time, announced that the word of the year is not a word but an emoticon - tears of joy.
Presumably to highlight the evolution of written language, and changing a very old tradition to Oxford made a decision a few days ago in the least strange, announcing that the word of the year of 2015 is not a word, but an image, emoticons "Tears of Joy or Tears of Joy"Has been defined as the most popular term this year.
In theory, Oxford Dictionary has the aim of capturing the changes in popular culture, for this reason they incorporate a new word each year, plus those developed in English. We see that many of us, who speak Portuguese, English, Romanian or another language, begin to communicate with a surprising amount of emoticons or emoji, so we should not necessarily be impressed by this change in trajectory promoted by the University of Oxford .
It is a sad reality, instead of words we begin to see images in the dictionary, regardless of their importance in popular culture. But we can still live and show our feelings without the aid of little yellow figures (or now recently black or light).
Passing over what happened, the "Word of the Year" prize of the year to better understand this rare distinction, is sufficient if we understand the other terms indicated. Among these words we inevitably find a term from the technological industry, such as Ad Blocker or Dark Web. We also find words that for many may not mean as much as for example: lumbersexual or fleek. We hope that “tears of joy” is just an exception and not a rule.
