Last week started a new year and, although 2025 certainly has good things in store, the truth is that it doesn't start in the best way – especially for those who enjoy augmented reality filters. Instagram, Facebook or Messenger.
This is because, as it was announced by Meta In August 2024, the Spark platform that is used to create these augmented reality filters on Meta's services will be shut down this month. Meta Spark's last day of existence is scheduled for January 14.
BUT: Instagram to have generative AI features by 2025
At the time, Meta committed to continuing to invest in augmented reality experiences that go beyond “2D mobile phone experiences”.
The company noted, however, that this would require “transferring resources” from areas such as Spark to new projects. Needless to say, however, Meta’s social media users who use these filters were not happy at the time.
