The Criminal Investigation Service (SIC) of Huíla, in partnership with its counterpart in Cabinda, dismantled a group of alleged fraudsters who acted using the Multicaixa Express technological application, with the aim of withdrawing monetary values from private bank accounts.

According to what was revealed by agents of the national security forces, the group is from Cabinda and was arrested on the outskirts of Lubango, where most of its victims are. Aged between 20 and 32, the suspected fraudsters were presented yesterday (10), Tuesday, publicly, in Huíla.

The said group of fraudsters consisted of three citizens, natural and resident in Cabinda, who earlier this year, using tricks, moved from the account of a national citizen who lives in Lubango the amount of seven million kwanzas, through the MCX Express and transferred to the account of one of the parties involved.

According to the head of the Department of Studies, Planning, Information and Analysis of the Huíla SIC, chief superintendent José Augusto Miúdo, speaking to journalists, said that the arrest was possible thanks to an anonymous tip and the prompt collaboration of the Cabinda counterpart. .

BUT: Multicaixa Express moved over 4,9 billion kwanzas in 2021

The staff also stressed that the accused admitted that they launch applications on social networks and impersonate employees of EMIS, which owns Express, and the victims, when joining, provide personal data, including banking determinants (PIN and IBAN), and the from there, they can, through the application, move the accounts.

It was also revealed that with the amount subtracted, the three suspects acquired goods, such as motorcycles, high-end mobile phones, plasma televisions and others, which have already been seized by the SIC.

One of the accused, by the way the “leader” of the group, revealed that it was the first time that the action “worked”, as they had been trying for some time, through posts on social networks with misleading information, but without success.

It should be noted that scams through Multicaixa Express have been recurrent, so led EMIS to report the scams through the app, last week. The last “famous” victim was the Angolan actor Silvio Nascimento, who lost thousands of kwanzas in the Multicaixa Express app due to a scam. Through a live, Sílvio Nascimento explained that, with the intention of updating the application, the fraudsters asked for his phone number, which he handed over, as he thought he was contacting the Multicaixa Express service. Two days later, the fraudsters, pretending to be EMIS employees, called to see the application's notifications update, to which Sílvio Nascimento, being a little distracted shopping, gave them the time to check the matter.
