Since Thunderbird stopped importing automatically from Outlook, I've been desperate to get a workable, cheap (and cheap) solution to solve the problem. I confess that I blocked in Thunderbird, and did not look for alternative solutions until recently when I really felt the need.

The solution is very simple, but not very practical. First, it requires a Linux machine, preferably Ubuntu ou Debian. For the less initiated I advise the use of a graphical environment to pass the files from the pen / network to the machine and vice versa.

  1. Once you have the machine ready, open the terminal and install readpst:
sudo apt-get install readpst

After the "read PST" installed, you can start converting * .PST files into .EML files that are easily imported by Thunderbird through the ImportExportTools add-on.

2. Choose a folder to work with, and put all the PSTs there to convert. For now, you must create a folder to hold the export:

mkdir Archive

3. And you can do the following readPST command to export the file into the folder (for more options, see here):

readpst -M -b -e -o Archive Archive.pst

If it is to open on the same machine they are working on, just open Thunderbird and, with ImportExportTools already installed, go to the Import / Export menu> import all eml files from a directory> include subdirectories.

4. If it is to put on another machine, compress the folder, and then pick up the file and take it wherever you want.

tar -zcvf Archive.tar.gz Archive
