Facebook owner accused of using pirated content to train AI models

The margin of the controversy ddecision to abandon the fact-checking policy, Meta is now involved in yet another controversy and is accused of using pirated content torrents to train its Artificial Intelligence (AI) Llama models.

How does it count Wired magazine, Meta was sued in 2023 where it was alleged that the technology company had used copyrighted content to train its AI.

Well, the documents from this process have now been made public and reveal a conversation where it becomes clear that Meta intentionally used pirated content and that CEO Mark Zuckerberg was aware of this practice.

In one of these conversations, one of the engineers admits that “downloading torrents on a corporate computer [at Meta] doesn’t look good”, with the mention of a person named “MZ” (Mark Zuckerberg) indicating that the company leader was aware of this practice.

The same documents indicate that Meta has been using content from a Russian platform that hosts pirated books, journals and academic articles called LibGen to train its AI models.
