the tech giant Meta (parent company of Facebook, Instagram e WhatsApp) is creating a social network to compete with Twitter, to launch "as soon as possible", according to the specialized media "The Verge".

In an internal meeting, Meta Product Director Chris Cox called the new platform, on which Meta has been working since January, its “answer to the Twitter” and said it will use Instagram's account system to automatically fill in a user's information.

"Creators and public figures are interested in having a platform that is run sensibly, that they can trust.“, said Chris Cox, which is interpreted as an allusion to the lack of trust that users and companies have in Twitter since Elon Musk bought the application last year.

Chris Cox also underlined that the application will be based on the “security (e) in being easy to use and reliable".

The internal name of the social network is “Project 92”, and its public name could be “Threads” (threads in English), according to internal documents that “The Verge” had access to.

The new standalone application will be based on Instagram and, according to the photographs published by the social media, it will be very similar to the comments section of Instagram, but with the option to repost the messages of other users, similar to the “retweet”.

The app will be integrated into ActivityPub, the open source decentralized protocol for social media, allowing users of the new app to take their accounts and followers to other apps such as Mastodon.

Chris Cox said that some celebrities have already committed to using the application, such as music producer DJ Slime. And he also said that he is in talks with personalities such as television presenter Oprah Winfrey and the Dalai Lama.
