Electronics Arts is considering the idea of changing the name of its famous football game series, called “FIFA”.

Although the news shows that at the moment it is just an idea being studied by the company, but the name change may be linked to the royalties that the governing body of football (FIFA) receives from sales of the most popular video game.

It is no longer a novelty for video game lovers that some changes are taking place in the world of virtual football. First was Konami, which changed the name of the video game from PES to eFootball 2022, which the company says is due to the new business direction, as well as an offer free-to-play.

Now it's Electronic Arts, which the news reports that it is considering changing the name of its FIFA games, a change that is being made with the very highest body of world football, FIFA.

BUT: Watching e-sports: what are the best events and tournaments?

Please note that for over 25 years EA Sports has used the FIFA acronym in the name of its football titles, but it is a very expensive license for the company, considering the royalties it has to pay for the use of the name, excluding everything else : teams, players, competitions, all official. Still, EA hasn't revealed the real reasons for this name revision, but increasing revenue and decreasing expenses may strictly be the main reason.

According to the renowned platform Bloomberg, in a statement, EA states that it is “explore the idea” to rename the football series, as well as the agreement with FIFA. However, he says that this change is completely separate from other official partnerships and licensing, adding more than 300 individual agreements to date.

Regarding the videogames section, this year the main novelty is the HyperMotion technology in the PS5, Xbox Series X and Stadia versions, which aims to make football matches more authentic and fluid. According to EA, the technology was used to capture the 22 players simultaneously on the football field while playing football.

Previously, players were recorded in the studio, individually, simulating and faking plays. And with HyperMotion, both the stadium and the matches were recorded in real time, using some football stars, in order to bring that authenticity to the virtual field.
