A Interbank Services Company (EMIS), which operates ATMs and automatic payment terminals throughout the national territory, will reinforce the security mechanisms of the Multicaixa Express digital channel.

According to the executive director of Emis, Pedro de Abreu, who was speaking at the Forum on Financial Inclusion for Development, this decision to strengthen the application is based on based on the number of transactions that are made in the application, which has increased in recent years.

"Three years ago we had 1,5 million transactions, last year we had 350 million transactions. We are talking about a very, very, considerable rise”, said Pedro de Abreu.

In his approach, the manager did not forget to mention the issue of frequent scams that Multicaixa Express has been targeting in recent times, where in the last month there have been concerns regarding the application's security issues, and in this sense the company will, in the near future, launch more validations, improve the process of approving operations, with more validation messages.

"For example, for x out of x uses, you'll have to receive a code on your phone to make sure it's the person, we'll try to validate the origin of the codes, we'll set the usage limits”, stressed the Administrator.

"It is very important to say that this compromise of security and convenience is a difficult compromise. Maybe we could stop fraud not having Multicaixa Express, but we need this kind of tools and therefore we have to strike a balance between security and convenience”, highlighted Pedro de Abreu.

The official also added that fraud in means of payment is a global phenomenon, as the number of digital initiatives has been increasing.

"We actually have a set of measures that I think will help reduce this issue of fraud, it will not disappear, we are not correcting system failures, we are going to make the validation processes and use of the tool more resilient and less prone to fraud”, he indicated.
