A Kamaleon, a Mozambican enterprise of information technology startup, is developing a program that aims at bringing to rural areas Internet access in Mozambique through a platform called Community Tablet.
The Community Tablet is innovative that allows the user to have educational messages in various communities, aims to promote digital inclusion and ensure that more people have access to information and communication technologies.
The Community Tablet, launched in November of 2016, is an effective solution for schools, health departments and hospitals to develop community-friendly health education messages as opposed to distributing leaflets with health information.
The Mozambican company also offers training on how to use the internet and its characteristics to members of these rural areas. Currently the Community Tablet is only in Mozambique, however, there are plans to expand across Africa soon.
The initiative was developed in 2016 by Dayn Amade as a unique solution that aims to bring information technology to those rural areas.
“A few years ago, anyone who did not know how to read and write was considered illiterate, but today this concept goes further, it covers people who do not know how to use information and communication technologies. The Community Tablet is here to change that, ”said Dayn Amade.
Kamaleon has built a product that is robust enough to handle the toughest of conditions on the road, there is even an integrated cooling system to cool electronic components powered by solar panels and remove moisture inside the truck. The tablet's screen is protected from adverse weather conditions, which allows continuous use on rainy, windy or extremely hot days.
Mozambique remains one of the countries in Africa, with a low percentage of the population with access to the internet. Despite the growth of several smart devices across Africa, there are still some areas that do not have access to the virtual world.
