Telecommunications companies claim not to have technical information on Angosat-2

The main telecommunications companies operating in the Angolan market are unaware of the Government's strategy in relation to Angosat-2, which in their opinion raises uncertainties and they do not believe that the impact of the satellite will be profound for the vast majority of Angolans, since until now the Government's priorities are not known, nor what services will be made available to the respective companies.

Speaking at the V Edition of the Telecom Forum, by Jornal Expansão, operators underlined that until now they had not been contacted by the Angolan Executive to speak about the satellite, emphasizing that the lack of technical information on Angosat-2 and the priority objectives of the State, oblige the companies to bet on fiber optics to take mobile communications throughout Angola.

In their speeches at the event which featured a round table, bringing together businessmen and companies from the telecommunications sector, the private managers were unanimous in claiming that they are unaware of the Government's strategy in relation to the satellite and that there is an urgent need for the managing entity of Angosat-2 to create communication channels with operators.

BUT: Companies do not expect a reduction in communications prices even with Angosat-2 functioning

They added that they were not presented with the technical dossiers to understand how this could impact their activity, and the time they need to adapt to this new reality.

They agree that the satellite space they currently buy abroad in foreign currency, if exchanged for purchase in kwanzas, will be a benefit. But regarding prices and supply conditions, for now they are unaware of the strategy for the Angolan satellite.

During the interventions, which lasted more than an hour, with the participation of the audience, the five guests called attention not to raise expectations with the launch of the Angolan satellite and insisted on the sharing of data on the capabilities of ANGOSAT II to adapt the various businesses they develop in the country, a transversal positioning of all operators.

One thing is certain, although they have alternatives and many of them are viable, they do not devalue the ANGOSAT II project, but they believe that there should be no enthusiasm, because there are services that the telecommunications cable network can provide and that a satellite cannot. Everyone agrees that it is a means of reaching areas without mobile communications signal coverage.
