The Entertainment and Media sector in Africa has grown to great strides in the last two decades as some artists have moved from total obscurity to global recognition. This sector includes books, internet films, radio, TV and video games, and the continent is expected to grow faster than the world average.

The music industry, for example, is a major contributor to strong growth in this sector. Behind the internet, the music is really just the thing, as online has been a highlight in recent times.

The growth of the African music industry was mainly due to three factors: Demographic data, internet penetration and transmission. Entertainment data suggests that spending in the 10 youngest markets worldwide is growing three times faster than the oldest 10. More simply, growth in entertainment and media spending is determined more by the age of a country's population than by comparative wealth, as seen in the upper right quadrant of Figure 3. In fact, six out of 10 Africans are under 24 years years - the youngest population in any region worldwide.

The increased penetration of mobile devices and the Internet boosts revenue generation for entertainment and the media. At 2015, about half a billion Africans signed up for mobile services; Up to 2020, there will be around 725 millions of unique subscribers. Over the last 10 years, African countries have adopted mobile technology and the Internet at a faster rate than the rest of the world. And one of the areas that stood out the most in the African entertainment industry was the casino industry.
