In this first part, we present a summary of the points highlighted by João Lourenço in his State of the Nation address. Throughout his speech, the Head of State presented data and measures that reinforce the commitment to scientific research, technological training, and the practical application of knowledge—essential pillars for economic diversification and national sovereignty.
Expansion of telecommunications and digital inclusion
In one of the most telling passages of his speech, João Lourenço presented figures demonstrating the rapid growth of digital connectivity in Angola. In 2002, the country had approximately 140 mobile subscribers; by 2010, that number had grown to 9,3 million.
In the first half of 2025, Angola reached 26,275,023 mobile telephone subscriptions, 10,501,761 fixed and mobile internet subscriptions and 1,888,477 pay-TV subscriptions.
The President also highlighted that the country has over 20 kilometers of fiber optic cable, with terrestrial connections to the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Zambia, and Namibia, as well as submarine cable connections to Brazil and the main systems along the West African coast. These advances consolidate the modernization of digital infrastructure and expand national technological coverage.
ANGOSAT-2 Satellite and the National Space Program
The President announced that Angola now has the ANGOSAT-2 communications satellite in operation, which is implementing the Conecta Angola Project, which is responsible for bringing communications to remote areas of 13 provinces. This achievement consolidates the country's presence in space and expands the coverage of digital and telecommunications services throughout the country.
João Lourenço also highlighted the intention to consolidate the National Space Program, with the creation of the Space Agency and the National Cybersecurity Academy, institutions considered fundamental to strengthening digital sovereignty, guaranteeing data protection and promoting a national culture of cybersecurity.
The President emphasized that these initiatives represent the country's commitment to keeping pace with global technological advances, ensuring strategic autonomy and digital competitiveness.
