Telephones have spread all over the world, including in rural and low-income communities. As research shows, these devices have the potential to bring about significant social change, a fact recognized in the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. While the promising role that telephones and other information and communication technologies can play in empowering women, particularly in Africa, has been discussed relatively recently, it is known how, when and why this happens. women in the city Nigerian de Kano to see how they were using the mobile messaging service WhatsApp, with the pretension of whether, the app had opened up opportunities and freedoms that contributed to strengthen them. During the study, many women said that WhatsApp allowed them to communicate better, especially with local politicians. They felt empowered to talk about their concerns openly in WhatsApp newsgroups. They had more access to information. Others joined religious study groups on WhatsApp, sharing questions and knowledge with other women. some women have converted their access to WhatsApp into an opportunity. For example, they advertised small businesses or services in WhatsApp groups and made money as a result. Regarding this study, it can be concluded that the simple and low-cost way of sharing information about groups has increased women's ability to learn and obtain clarifications on concepts that were not clear to them. In other cases, they got help with their children's homework.
