The government of Etiópia through its telecommunications company-Ethio Telecom, the agency that manages the communications, decided to shut down the Internet before the examinations in the Universities to avoid the leak of the tests.

The Internet was shut down on Tuesday (May 30), the day before the exams started. Although it is not the first time Ethiopia has shut down the Internet in the examination period, 2016 social networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter e Viber, were blocked after university admission exams were published on these platforms.

“We are being proactive. We want students to be free from pressure and distractions, ”said a government spokesman.

Information advanced by the government of Ethiopia, shows that the internet was restored on the day after the exams ended, that is, on the morning of Wednesday (May 31), after more than 12 hours of closure. However, some part of the population complains that the connection was still being broken and very slow.

Ethiopia, which has one of smaller Internet connectivity rates in the world, was one of the first countries to censor the internet to reduce political protests. It is known that the closure of the Internet has caused great losses.
