The European Football Championship, Euro 2016, starts tomorrow in France. However recent attacks on the French capital, Paris, have created a negative expectation regarding the event. Will there be further attacks?
So the French government has decided to minimize this problem by using technology: a new smartphone application has been launched to alert users to possible terrorist attacks.
As it should be, the application is free and will send users an alert “in case of suspected attack“According to the French authorities.
For the application users will have to let the app know where they are at all times, that is, they need to enable their geolocation.
In an official communication, French authorities said the app was developed after the November 2015 terrorist attacks in Paris - which included the Stade de France - who left 130 dead.
With this application the French intend to avoid France's emergency hotlines being overloaded and that users receive alerts on safe zones in the event of a calamity. Authorities have already ensured that the app will continue to run even after Euro 2016.
Certainly more governments will follow suit ...
