An operation against illegal trade in the 'Dark web', led to the arrest of more than 150 suspects, revealed today the European police (Europol), in a statement.

"This operation, known as 'Dark Hun TOR', consisted of a series of separate but complementary actions in Australia, Bulgaria, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Switzerland, United Kingdom and United States“, reads the official announcement of Europol.

The said operation seized millions of euros in cash and 'bitcoins', as well as drugs and weapons, and where that seizure comes following the January dismantling of DarkMarket – one of the main cyber black market markets – under the leadership of the German police force.

It should be noted that in the United States, around 65 people were arrested in this same operation, which also resulted, around the world, in 47 arrests in Germany, 24 in the United Kingdom, four in Italy and four in the Netherlands. Most of the detainees "were important targets” for Europol.

Police also seized 26,7 million euros in cash and electronic coins, as well as drugs, including 25 ecstasy pills and 45 firearms.

In Italy, police also shut down illegal markets called “DeepSea” and “Berlusconi”, which together featured “more than 100 advertisements for illegal products”, according to Europol, whose operation was coordinated with Eurojust, the judicial cooperation agency of the European Union.

"The purpose of such an operation is to signal criminals operating on the 'dark web' that the law enforcement community has the means and international partnerships to expose and hold them accountable for their illegal activities, even in areas of the 'dark web' ',” said Europol's deputy director of operations, Jean-Philippe Lecouffe.
