Meta announced, this Tuesday (7), a new update to the Facebook algorithm, which will allow users to have more control over the videos that appear in their feed, especially those on Reels.
According to the company, the system will now show videos more aligned with each user's tastes and preferences, also introducing new features based on artificial intelligence (AI) and so-called "friend bubbles."
With this update, it will be easier to tell Facebook when a video isn't to your liking. You can now mark a Reel as "Not Interested" or flag a comment, helping the recommendation engine adjust based on that feedback.
The “Save” feature has also been improved, allowing you to organize and collect your favorite Reels and posts in one place for easy access later.
Meta says the changes are intended to address user complaints about excessive unwanted or low-quality content, including videos deemed fraudulent or AI-generated.
Recently, the company has been increasing its investment in artificial intelligence, including launching "Vibes," a new short video feed composed solely of AI-generated content within the Meta AI app.
Another new feature is that Facebook will prioritize more recent content, showing users 50% more videos published on the same day they're browsing.
Additionally, Facebook Reels will feature AI-powered search suggestions, which will help users discover new topics and videos of interest—similar to TikTok's auto-suggestions.
"Friend bubbles" will also be coming to Reels and the main feed, allowing you to see which posts have been liked by friends. By tapping the bubble with the profile picture, you can open a private conversation directly with that friend, making the experience more interactive and social.
With these changes, Meta aims to make the Facebook experience more personalized, relevant, and focused on each user's preferences.
