In its almost daily path of news, the WhatsApp adds many improvements. The most recent one showed that the long-awaited extended themes are coming, with many more proposals. Of course, new features are still being prepared, which show how this service will evolve.
The messaging platform is also testing a notification feature for group chats that will notify users only when they receive a reply or mention. Now, another new feature is in the works that aims to give WhatsApp users the option to verify the authenticity of images they receive on the platform.
WhatsApp is reportedly developing a feature that will allow users to search for images on the web. When you open a received image and tap on the three-dot button in the top right corner, it will show a new option called “Search Web.”
With this feature, users will be able to verify the authenticity of images by determining whether the image is original or AI-created, among other things. This will also help identify misleading or fake content. When a user searches for an image on the web, it is uploaded to Google, which then uses its algorithm to compare similar images or sources to quickly obtain information.
BUT: WhatsApp. iPhone users will receive new features
WhatsApp ensures privacy by not storing or processing these images. Even if the photos are sent to Google for search, they remain private and secure. This feature can be used on any image sent to a user by a friend or received in a forwarded message.
Additionally, WhatsApp is also testing a new feature to test the authenticity of links in frequently forwarded messages. Similar to the link search feature, the image search feature will be entirely optional.
From what we know, “users will have full control over whether they want to start a search or not, ensuring that no data is shared without their explicit action.” For now, the feature is under development and is not available even for beta users. It may arrive in a future update, with the link search feature.
