Network failures and high prices “enrage” customers of mobile services in Angola

The frequent network outages and the high cost of the plans offered have been one of the main “headaches" of over 17 million mobile phone subscribers in Angola, which is why it is challenging operators to improve the services provided to users.

For example, the average recharge price for Unitel costs around 600 kwanzas (considering recharges of 350, 500 and 1000 kwanzas), that is, without considering the daily, weekly and monthly plans.

On the other hand, the Movicel, taking into account only recharges of 500 and 1000 kwanzas, charges an average price of Kz 750 in normal recharges, while Africell offers an average rate of 600 kwanzas (with the balance amount varying from 200 to 1000 kwanzas).

BUT: Get to know Angola's mobile phone market share for the year 2021

The last update of the Telecommunications Rate Unit (UTT) price in the country took place in November 2016, going from 7.2 to 10 kwanzas/UTT, approved by the Council of Ministers, raising the price of telephone recharge from 125 UTT to 1.250 kwanzas ( an increase of 38,88 percent), after more than 10 years being marketed at Kz 900.

With the entry of Africell as the fourth operator, last April, in the country, Angolan civil society still complains about successive cuts in calls, busy network signal without justification and the sending of messages at inappropriate times as the most visible constraints that embarrass customers' daily lives. In addition to all these critical situations, the “evaporation / spending of the balance in a short time”, the unavailability of the mobile phone number, the weak internet signal, as well as the excessive waiting time for customers who flock to the operators' stores are other factors complained about by users.
