The Foundation for Scientific and Technological Development (FUNDECIT) is currently open to finance scientific and technological projects coming from researchers and higher education students in Angola, according to the words of minister Maria do Rosário Bragança Sambo.
The FUNDECIT is a foundation created last year, supervised by the Ministry of Higher Education Science, Technology and Innovation (MESCTI), and aims to promote the governance policy for science, technology and innovation, established in the National Development Plan (PND) 2018-2022.
The institution aims to implement science, technology and innovation policies and manage the financial means destined to scientific research and development, including those resulting from the mobilization or capture of extra OGE resources, for the financing, in a more effective way, of research activities. science and development, as well as carrying out the evaluation and accreditation of institutions dedicated to scientific research and technological development in the country, affiliated to the national system of science, technology and innovation (SNCTI).

With its creation, the Angolan Government intends to disseminate, in the national scientific community, institutions and society, its potential as a new national actor in science and development, collect contributions and mobilize organizations and researchers in favor of the operation and reinforcement of research.
According to Maria do Rosário Bragança Sambo, FUNDECIT is an important milestone in science funding, in order to reinforce and make consistent the competitive funding of higher education institutions, scientific research and development institutions and singular actors.
The creation of the foundation, he added, has great historical value, as it represents the start of activities of a new public institution directly in charge of funding science and the implementation of science, technology and innovation policies, with a view to strengthening the Angolan scientific system.
