O Chrome is one of the most widely used browsers today, Google has managed to make its offering stand out from the competition in many aspects. Among its main features is automatic synchronization across different devices. It doesn't matter if you use the browser on your mobile phone or computer, everything will be synchronized and always ready.
Having the same bookmarks, favorites, passwords, folders, and addresses on any device makes it easier to use Chrome every day. Of course, all of this is about to change for those of you running an older version of Chrome. Google has just announced that Chrome sync will no longer work on older versions of the browser.
The Google published a statement on the official Chrome support blog explaining that sync will disappear. Of course, this situation will affect all users who use older versions of the browser. Although the change is drastic, the solution is simple and falling victim to this situation is avoidable.
BUT: Google Chrome now reads any web page
All devices that use four year old Chrome versions will no longer have synchronization available. This means that versions released in 2021 will not have access to synchronization. Google indicates that when trying to synchronize information of any kind, one of these messages will appear:
- Update Chrome to start syncing
- Update Chrome to continue using Chrome data in your Google Account
The solution to this situation is very simple, all you need to do is have the latest version of Chrome. Google has indicated that the change in synchronization will mainly affect computer users because the Android or iOS versions tend to be updated more frequently due to the operation of the Play Store and App Store.
This change in Chrome shouldn't be a big problem for users. Of course, anyone using a four-year-old version of the browser should update their software now. Google hasn't set a date for the loss of synchronization, but it will happen during the first months of 2025.
