Google announces its intelligent chatbot to compete with ChatGPT

Google on Monday launched a new artificial intelligence (AI) tool called Bard, which appears to be a response to the Chat GPT, from competitor Microsoft and which achieved great popularity in just over two months of existence.

In a publication released on the corporate blog and signed by the CEO of Google and Alphabet, Sundar Pichai, it is explained that Bard has been tested so far with trusted people, before being opened to the general public “in the coming weeks”.

Without giving details, Google says that Bard takes your information from the Internet "to provide fresh, high-quality answers“, remembering that these can be used for creative purposes, but also purely informative.

The technology giant gives, moreover, some examples, noting that Bard will work for a nine-year-old child to understand the James Webb super telescope or to learn more about the greatest strikers in current football.

Other uses of Bard's 'chat' could be, according to Pichai's note, planning a "baby shower" (pre-birth party), comparing two Oscar-nominated films or preparing a menu according to the food available in a fridge .

The first version of Bard will be limited, to adapt to computers with less capacity, while Google manages to increase the “feedback” [return information] that will allow it to reach new types of users.

This gradual process will make Bard gain speed and quality, stresses the CEO's note.

Nowhere in the blog post is the competition mentioned, but analysts have pointed out that this new AI tool from Google is clearly the tech giant's answer to its major competitor, Microsoft.

ChatGPT has grown in popularity and versatility, but so are its ethical limits for educational purposes in schools and universities.
