Users who are still on Windows 7 or 8.1 and still use Chrome as their system browser can start preparing for some changes. This is because Google has confirmed that it will stop supporting both systems at the beginning of next year.
Following the Chrome update schedule, Google confirmed that Windows 7 and 8.1 will no longer receive official support for Chrome on February 7, 2023, when version 110 of the browser is released.
Although Google Chrome will continue to function after this date, it will no longer receive new security updates or news for systems running on these versions of Windows. The measure will certainly not be unexpected, but at the same time it will affect users and companies that still use this system on a daily basis.
Users who wish to continue receiving updates must remain on an updated version of Windows, namely Windows 10 or newer. These dates are also consistent with the official end of support dates for both systems.
Remember that Windows 7 stopped receiving official support in January 2020, but still has a 10.68% utilization rate on the market. Windows 8.1 has only 2.7% of the market. For users still on these systems, the recommendation will be to upgrade to a more recent version of Windows – or look for an alternative browser that maintains support, although this should not last long either.
