Google and ADB sign partnership to promote digital transformation in Africa

O African Development Bank and Google recently formalized an agreement to promote digital transformation in Africa, during the United Nations General Assembly, in New York.

The letter of intent, signed between the two entities, highlights the shared commitment to taking advantage of emerging technologies, expanding and improving infrastructure and improving talent and skills on the continent.

The parties have a history of promoting digital development. Over the past decade, the African Development Bank has invested $1,9 billion in projects that foster the development of broadband infrastructure, enabling policy and regulatory environments, digital skills and innovative technology startups.

"Our journey from 2% telephony penetration in 1998 to today's era of 4G, 5G and AI means immense progress. With 70% of Sub-Saharan Africans under the age of 30, our focus is to catalyze businesses, to create jobs and offer innovative solutions,” said African Development Bank President Akinwumi Adesina.
