Google Street View

We are past the phase of going to a country and not knowing what we are going to find. The maps have gained a new dimension with the Google Street View, which shows in detail several cities around the world. If Europeans, Americans and… are asked about the usefulness of this service, they can certainly describe its advantages.

And Africa? Does Google have bet on the Street View service for the mainland crib?

The obvious answer is: no! For clear reasons, the service is still not as widespread in Africa. To be more clear, Street View is now available in 75 countries around the world, Uganda has become the fifth African country (after South Africa, Botswana, Swaziland and Madagascar) to have the privilege of accessing the street view.

Uganda is the first country in East Africa to receive the service and the world will have access to views of the capital, Kampala.

It remains to be seen which will be the next African city to receive the service. There is not much hope of having the service in Luanda, since one of the rules for Google to start making the journey through the streets, is to have the roads and streets properly ordered. But hope is the last to die, right?
