Google will adopt new default passwordless login method

A Google announced that it will begin encouraging users to use 'passkeys' in your services like Gmail. Passkeys are an alternative to traditional passwords which, according to Mountain View technology, are more convenient and also more secure.

Google explains in a blog post that, to use the 'passkey', users will be able to use their fingerprint, face or a pin to unlock the device and states that they are “40% faster than passwords”.

BUT: Google now accepts Passkeys when logging into personal accounts

"Although they are a big step forward, we know that new technologies take time to be adopted – so passwords will remain around for a while longer. This is why people will be given the option to use a password to log in and may not even use 'passkeys' at all.", can be read in the Google publication.

It should be noted that Google is not the only technology company to encourage the use of 'passkeys', with Apple also launching support for this type of security feature with iOS 17.
