This Thursday (23) began the International Conference on the Digital Transition in Public Administration, at the Talatona Convention Center (CCTA), an event promoted by the Angolan Government whose aim is to present solutions and promote “crucial reflections” for the processes of modernization, digitization and interoperability in State administration.

Named "Government.to”, the two-day event is facilitated by the Institute of Administrative Modernization (IMA), which will include exhibitions and debates with national and foreign specialists, as well as collect contributions for the elaboration of the Digital Agenda of Angola.

Meik Afonso, director of the Institute of Administrative Modernization, speaking to Jornal de Angola, says that the objective of the conference is to promote the elaboration of the Digital Transition Agenda for Public Administration.

According to the Director, Angola urgently needs an agenda so that all public entities, especially those that provide public services, can have a common basis aimed at their modernization. That is why it is important to simplify and reduce bureaucracy in the services provided to citizens and companies.

"This does not mean that until now, digitalization, simplification or bureaucracy has not been achieved.”, said Meik Afonso, informing that the initiative already exists, but it has happened outside of an agenda and a common basis, which above all allows harmonizing actions.

BUT: Angolan government will focus on digital reform of public administration

"This harmonization will allow for a clearer, more objective and more assertive view of the measures”, indicated the person in charge, adding that “this will only be possible if we have a base that allows us to have a vision and, at the same time, it is necessary to put the vision in perspective, as well as define its execution form, realizing when and how the process will happen, as with the costs and the benefits we will have".

Still in his approach, the director of the IMA reveals that simplification and less bureaucracy have happened, although in a disharmonious way, and the intention, now, is to bring it to a common base.

As for the national territory, he emphasized, the creation of an agenda means, above all, facilitating the Government, which provides different services and which today are in a different stage of modernization and digitization. The process is at a stage still very much turned towards what is conventional, based on paper, the more rigid stages and the declarations made by the citizens themselves or these on behalf of companies, he clarified.

Finally, Meik Afonso concludes that the main objective is to find a joint path, through a common base, in order to facilitate, above all, political and strategic decisions, within the scope of administrative modernization.
