Government defends technological and scientific literacy of citizens

Angola must invest in technological and scientific literacy from a young age to popularize scientific and technological knowledge, according to Minister of Higher Education, Science, Technology and Innovation, Maria do Rosário Bragança.

For the leader, who spoke at the inauguration of the Luanda Science Center (CCL), science and technology play a great role in the development of society, where citizens must be educated about the most important scientific phenomena that surround them, a fact that will help them better understand how the world works and become scientifically literate.

To this end, added the Minister of Higher Education, technological and scientific literacy must be taught from an early age and maintained throughout life, although schools and universities are natural environments for this, other institutions or specialized organizations are dedicated to disseminating or popularization of scientific and technological knowledge.

He recalled that the legal regime of the National Science, Technology and Innovation System, approved by Presidential Decree nº 261/21, highlights that it is the State's responsibility to promote scientific and technological culture, to reinforce national awareness about the importance of research and development activities to strengthen public trust and support for science.

Maria do Rosário Bragança recalled that the technological infrastructure inaugurated yesterday is not just for Luanda residents, but for all Angolans and those who visit the country's capital. The project, she added, is just one part of the national scientific literacy process, making science accessible to the public and a crucial means for empowering people with knowledge and critical thinking skills.

The official reminded the members of the Executive and academics present at the ceremony that, with the inauguration of the Luanda Science Center, the Angolan Government is joining other countries in promoting the development of science centers at national and provincial level.
