Government defends sustainable digital industrial development

The Angolan Executive defends the combination of efforts between States, to promote inclusive and sustainable digital industrial development.

For the Minister of Industry and Commerce, Rui Miguêns de Oliveira, who was speaking at the 20th General Conference of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) under the theme “Fair Globalization: Innovative Solutions for the Industry of Tomorrow”, he stressed that it was necessary to technology transfer and investment in technical training.

According to the official, the investment will guarantee the creation of jobs, reduce poverty, combat hunger and food insecurity and guarantee sustainable socioeconomic development.

Rui Miguêns de Oliveira stressed that efforts to accelerate industrialization will not be successful without an effective opening of global consumer markets and the elimination of subsidy policies that distort the international competitiveness of the economies of developing countries, particularly those on the African continent.

He called for everyone's efforts to reduce carbon emissions and gradually decarbonize industries, investing in renewable energy, especially green hydrogen, to minimize the effects of climate change, protecting future generations.

He mentioned that Angola also expresses its concern about the effects caused by climate change and has energy transition as a priority point on its agenda.

About 20º UNIDO meeting, was held in a context marked by current global crises caused by the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, climate change and armed conflicts, and aims to open new paths towards sustainability, digital inclusion and economic resilience.
