The Angolan Government will support universities that intend to be the promoters of the II edition of the International Congress on “Science, Innovation and Development in Lusofonia”, according to the Minister of Higher Education, Science, Technology and Innovation, Maria do Rosário Bragança.

Speaking at the XNUMXst International Congress of Science, Innovation and Development in Lusofonia, in Mindelo, on the Island of São Vicente, in Cape Verde, the person responsible stated that the works presented demonstrate the results of investigations, which can contribute to having an impact on the lives of people.

"We often get the idea that research has to be oriented towards solving a specific problem, as in the case of applied research", said.

The minister took the opportunity to visit several educational institutions, with emphasis on the Technical University of the Atlantic, which has an Institute of Nautical Sciences, Engineering and Marine Sciences, which collaborates with the University of Namibe, to prepare an action plan with with a view to overcoming some problems in relation to courses linked to Nautical Sciences.

Maria do Rosário Bragança informed that from November 30th to December 1st this year, Angola will hold the VIII National Conference on Science and Technology, which will feature the presentation of work by researchers from Angola and other countries, where Cape Verde is expected to have an important participation.

Professor at Universidade Lusófona de Portugal Maria de Lurdes Machado argued that higher education institutions must develop internal, external and other systems to be analyzed by global quality assessment agencies.

Maria de Lurdes Machado said that quality is a major challenge, adding that higher education in the world had 260 million students in 2016, and according to UNESCO projections, this number should reach 600 million in 2040.

The teacher added that to achieve quality there are several global challenges, from globalization, internationalization and the demands of the job market that need competent students.

The Professor reported that there are studies that indicate that 36 percent of graduates from institutions worldwide do not acquire cognitive gains throughout their training and this represents a great challenge. “In this context, questions are asked about what to teach students to acquire the skills necessary to deal with global challenges, from emotional, linguistic and digital skills”. She congratulated the challenge launched by the Vice-President of the Republic of Angola, Esperança da Costa, for the II Lusophone Congress to be held in Luanda.

“The challenge launched by the Vice-President of Angola demonstrates that at a political level there is a concern to invest in the creation of initiatives to place Higher Education institutions among the best in the world and ensure that graduates acquire the necessary skills to compete in the job market. work".
