One of the most anticipated games in history has been delayed again. Rockstar Games has confirmed that GTA 6 will only arrive in November 2026, further increasing the anxiety of fans who have been waiting for more than a decade for the successor to... GTA 5, launched in 2013.
But the new Grand Theft Auto isn't the only case of long delays in the industry. Other legendary titles have also faced years of development before reaching players.
1. GTA 6
In production since 2018, GTA 6 is Rockstar's most ambitious project. Active development began in 2020, after the completion of Red Dead Redemption 2. Even so, the game has been delayed again, now to November 19, 2026.
After seven years in production and two release date changes, the new GTA promises ultra-realistic graphics, detailed reflections, and the return of the most famous open world in video games.
2. Red Dead Redemption 2
The Wild West epic also took time. It took eight years of work, between 2010 and 2018, to create the journey of Arthur Morgan and the Van der Linde gang.
The result was one of the most acclaimed games in history, for its immersion, graphics, and deep narrative. Despite being the "second" in name, Red Dead Redemption 2 is a prequel to the original 2010 title.
3.Cyberpunk 2077
Announced in 2012, CD Projekt Red's futuristic game took eight years to be released and even then it arrived riddled with problems. After several delays, Cyberpunk 2077 debuted in December 2020 with many bugs and glitches, forcing the developer to release numerous updates.
Today, the open-world RPG set in the dystopian Night City is considered one of the most complete experiences in the genre, but it came at a high price to get there.
4. Resident Evil 4
Capcom's classic went through several production restarts between 1999 and 2005. At least four versions were scrapped before the team led by Shinji Mikami arrived at the final version, which revolutionized the survival horror genre.
Originally released on the GameCube, the game followed Leon S. Kennedy on a rescue mission in Spain, blending intense action with the series' characteristic horror.
5 StarCraft II
Blizzard began developing StarCraft II in 2003, but the game wasn't finished until 2010. Even after seven years of waiting, the base version came incomplete, lacking the campaigns for all races.
Despite this, the title has established itself as one of the greatest real-time strategy games, featuring epic battles between Terrans, Zerg, and Protoss.
