Nigerian authorities confirmed that they had arrested a hacker in the region, suspected of having carried out thefts of large sums from charities in the USA, worth approximately 7,5 million dollars.

Olusegun Samson Adejorin was arrested in the city of Ghana on December 29, 2023, on suspicion of having defrauded two charities in the USA. Adejorin allegedly deceived entities into transferring large amounts of money under different pretexts, totaling an estimated 7,5 million dollars.

Local authorities claim that the crimes occurred between June and August 2020, involving improper access to the institutions' email accounts, which were then used as being associated with employees there.

The hacker will have used several tools to try to deceive entities in order to transfer funds without arousing suspicion. At the same time, tools were implemented on the internal network of the two entities with the aim of collecting even more sensitive information, such as employee account login data.

Adejorin now faces a sentence of almost 20 years in prison for fraud and a further five years for improper access to computer systems
