A group of hackers known as Electronic Equipment do Curd disfigured websites related to the government of Kenya on the 1 day of June of 2019. At the time of publication, some sites, such as the National Youth Service, were restored, while others still featured hackers. message that they were responsible for the disfigurement.
For some cases, the authorities who have control of Kenya's Information and Communication Technologies services seem to have regained control and put the following message:
“Sorry for the inconvenience, but we are doing some maintenance at the moment. If you need, you can always contact us. Otherwise, we will be back online soon! - Team GoK Cyber Security".
So far, it has not been clear what was the reason for these attacks on Kenyan government websites. However, looking at the list of hundreds of sites that the Curd defaced all over the world, they might look for vulnerabilities in websites and, when they find them, exploit and deface their target sites.
However, given the recent deterioration of Kenyan government websites, some have begun to wonder whether all Kenyan systems are safe from being exploited by potential hackers. It is also important to note that most government sites, before they were disfigured, did not have SSL Certificates.
