In South Africa, the IBM partnered with NYDA (National Youth Development Agency) to close the digital divide for young South Africans, improve digital literacy and prepare them to succeed actively in the 21st century workplace with the essential skills for this it was turbulent.

In light of high youth unemployment rates in South Africa, and considering that technology is transforming jobs, industries and entire economies – IBM and NYDA will host a series of educational boot camps through NYDA regional offices to digitally enable young people.

IBM announces massive commitment and a global plan to provide 30 million people of all ages with the new digital skills needed for tomorrow's jobs by 2030.

IBM says that young South Africans are facing extreme difficulties in South Africa, as only around 24% of them have jobs – and more than 3 million young people between the ages of 18 and 24 are not employed. According to Statistics South Africa, youth aged 15-24 and 25-34 have the highest unemployment rates of any age group at 64,4% and 42,9% respectively – highlighting the need growing demand for the public and private sectors to collaborate on education and training that keeps pace with market demands, demographic changes and technological progress.

With diverse offerings and an adaptable approach, IBM's education portfolio strives to be unique and effective, which reflects the company's understanding that a one-size-fits-all approach simply doesn't work when it comes to education.

BUT: IBM finally concluded Red Hat purchase

IBM programs range from technical education for teenagers in physical public schools and universities, and extend to paid IBM internships and apprenticeships. The company's training and skills programs also match IBM mentors with students and provide free, customizable online curricula for aspiring professionals.

To achieve this goal, IBM has detailed a clear roadmap with more than 170 new academic and industry partnerships. The effort will leverage IBM's existing programs and career-building platforms to expand access to education and on-demand technical roles.
