A LG presented during the IFA 2018, technology conference that takes place this week in Berlin, Germany, its first 8 TV OLED 88K inches.
The South Korean company is known for its smartphones, but the most notable technology is televisions and screens that it already invests in flexible displays and could be the main supplier for foldable smartphones for years to come.
The 88-inch TV is the largest in the world with OLED panel and 8K resolution (7680 × 4320 pixels). This is four times more pixels than 4K or 16 times more than Full HD. “LG's first 8K OLED TV is the result of technological achievement and the next evolutionary stage of display technology", said Brian Kwon, president of LG.
Brian Kwon says that with the increasing popularity and massing of 4K resolution screens on the world market, now is the time to implement 8K resolution on TVs, even though content in such a resolution is extremely difficult to find and even more difficult to reproduce, since to carry out streaming of resolution it is necessary internet connection excellent that not all have access.
LG expects OLED TV sales in the market to double during 2018 and expects to reach more than nine million units by 2022. Although the market for 8K TVs is still in its early stages, LG expects it to grow to over 5 million of units by 2022.
The manufacturer has not confirmed the price of the 8 88K OLED TV, but news should come up over the next few months.
