INACOM warns: do not fall for the scam of international calls

In 2018 several users of the national mobile networks faced a worrying situation, registered calls from international numbers "suspects”, Which ended up being defined as a hacker attack. The consecutive calls, without giving the user a chance to answer, were all from unknown international numbers.

Practically two years later, since yesterday, June 20, 2020, customers of the company's voice service UNITEL e MOVICEL have been the target of calls from numbers considered at risk from the following countries: Zimbabwe; Sierra Leone; Guinea-Conakry; Burundi; Mali, Liberia; Congo; Somalia; Montenegro; Serbia; Tajikistan; Latvia; Lithuania; Macedonia; Seychelles; Cuba and Vanuatu.

O The attack, also known as “touch and flee”, is an economic fraud, which essentially aims to attract users to return the phone call, with the aim of collecting revenue for international calls. It is a phenomenon that affects the mobile phone industry in several countries. Therefore, INACOM reassures users of mobile networks that there is no risk of theft of information or personal data, calling on everyone not to answer, or to return international calls to unknown numbers.

According to a press release regarding the situation, UNITEL guarantees that it has a security system in place to prevent the occurrence of a fraud called, by the mobile telecommunications industry, as Wangiri - Single Ring Solicitation (Request to Call or Tap and Run).

  1. I don't know how they get these numbers and since not everyone receives these calls, is there a pattern?
