O Instagram is working on a new feature called “Community Chat” which, apparently, will allow communication between people in groups with up to 250 participants.
The feature was spotted by developer Alessandro Paluzzi and shared in a post on Threads, where it is said to work similarly to Discord. Users can reportedly form groups around specific topics and choose people to join the conversation.
BUT: Instagram may give Reels its own app
Naturally, the group creators will be the administrators of these groups and can “remove messages and members”, and conversations will also be subject to Instagram's own rules.
An Instagram spokesperson told Engadget that this feature is still a “internal prototype” and is being tested only within the company. Therefore, it is not yet clear whether it will be launched on the market.
