O Telecommunications Institute (ITEL) will feature the Electro-Medicine course, where at the moment the problem is the lack of space to welcome new students, according to the general director, Cláudio Gonçalves.

Speaking at the closing ceremony of the 14th edition of the Technological Innovation Fair of FITITEL, the manager stresses that “To implement this training, we would have to start thinking about expanding the institution's current infrastructure".

Cláudio Gonçalves also revealed that ITEL needs 38 more teachers to help with the institution's general staffing system, where currently, he added, the educational establishment only has 86 teachers.

"The challenge that the institution faces is the shortage of teachers, to meet, with some tranquility, the number of students at the institution”, he said, recognizing that the IT course and the Multimedia Systems course are the most restricted, every academic year, due to the lack of teachers. “Every year we are unable to have more than one class in these two courses”, he lamented.

Cláudio Gonçalves assured that the causes of the process were identified and they are looking for solutions to mitigate the situation in the institution. Although the Ministry of Telecommunications, Information Technologies and Social Communication (MINTTICS) has hired some employees for the institution, he said, the number is insufficient.

"It is a challenge that we have to face, assume and seek the best possible solutions to overcome it."He said.

For this academic year, Cláudio Gonçalves said that ITEL initially had 260 places for 10th class students, with a total of 3.000 registered candidates. From this number, only 390 competitors were selected for the three courses.

For the academic year, which started on the 1st of this month, he guaranteed, ITEL has a total of 1.064 students. The institution, he continued, has 17 classrooms, nine of which are conventional and the rest are laboratories.
