We are used to consoles as closed and fixed platforms. That is, during their entire lives almost nothing that affects performance or the way they work changes. They decrease the size of the components making them smaller, they exchange the hard drives for others with greater capacities, but nothing that affects how they read the games. So, as a rule, a game that works on one console will work the same way and look the same on another of the same model and brand. It's simple, we put the disc in, start the game and play. But apparently, Square Enix wants to change that a little bit.
Whoever buys the PS4 version of Final Fantasy XIV: The Realm Reborn can choose between two resolutions to run the game. According to Square Enix, it will be possible to choose a native resolution of 1080p (aka Full HD) and in this case run the risk of the game having falls of pictures in the moments of intense action or choose the resolution of 720p so that it runs of form more fluid.
Square also revealed that it will be possible to choose the quality and quantity of graphic effects to be seen, which will also affect the performance of the game.
The latest generation of consoles brought with it many properties that previously belonged only to computers. Will the resolution change and the graphic quality setting become commonplace as well? Only time will tell us.
