For many when it comes to mobility in Angola, there are still some question marks to be made, but for those who already know this market, they know that there are platforms like Kubinga operating in the national market.

Already operating for more than 2 years, the company has won tenders such as the Seedstars Luanda 2018, Unitel Apps 2019, and participated in the Web Summit 2019. The phase that we find for sure is not being the best for companies that work in this mobility sector, a living example is international companies like Uber, Bolt, Free Now (Kapten) who ended up losing a lot of money through COVID-19.

It was not just internationals that had losses in this phase, the company Kubinga, owner of the platform with the same name and known as the 'uber Angolan', accounted for a 71% drop in daily requests, dropping from 800 to 230 registrations throughout the state of emergency (March and April).

Second Emerson Paim, CEO of the company, was proportional to the reduction in revenues, which fell 70% to around 24 million kwanzas per month. The same notes, however, a “satisfactory recovery”, with the end of the state of emergency, with monthly invoicing now standing at 60 million kwanzas. “We took advantage of the month of April to update the application, which, in addition to transporting people, starts making product deliveries, having virtual stores and allowing the digital wallet to be updated. In the last few months, we have been recovering a lot ”, he acknowledges.

Of the invoiced amount, about 75% goes to more than 399 registered car owners, only in Luanda, while the remaining 25% goes to the platform. The platform expects the number of subscribers to increase, in the coming days, with the implementation of the 'one-click taxi' service in the city of Lubango, in Huíla, a goal delayed by the pandemic. Benguela will be the next destination.
