The country's capital, Luanda, has only 24 ATMs for every 100 inhabitants, which currently represents a geographic asymmetry in the distribution of ATMs and causes great difficulties for civil society in the province to access this service.

According to data from the weekly New Journal, based on the information provided by the Interbank Services Company (EMIS), despite having the highest population density in relation to the other 17 provinces, Luanda is the territory where access to the multicaixa is very difficult due to its existing number, which is a total of 1.920 multicaixas spread across seven municipalities and six urban districts, very small for the more than eight million citizens, which represents about 27% of the total population of the country.

BUT: Angolans prefer to make payments through multicaixa

On the report "Measures to Reduce Regional Asymmetry“, EMIS says that the asymmetric geographic distribution also reflects negatively on the populations of the less urban arteries of Luanda, which was due to the fact that the province has developed clinging to the network of bank branches.

"The ATM network is necessarily asymmetrical, because banks follow a logic of profitability in the deployment of their branches, ending up with a significant part of multicaixas concentrated in urban centers with greater business development“, reveals EMIS in the report.

It should be noted that the percentage of ATMs outside the branches is an evolutionary trend, which currently represents only 15% of the total network, informs EMIS.

On the other hand, after Luanda, the provinces with the most ATMs are Benguela(277), Huíla(181), Huambo(134), Cuanza Sul(94), Cabinda(84), Zaire(64), Malanje(61) , Uíge(60).
