Microsoft stops providing technical support for Windows 7 and Windows 8

Microsoft I previously notified that on January 10th, technical and security support for Windows 7, 8 and 8.1 will permanently end. In the same way that the Edge browser no longer supports the respective operating systems, with the end of regular security updates. Edge's Webview2 technology, used to run web pages in apps, also sees its end in Windows 7 and 8.

On your page blog, Microsoft says that versions of Edge 109 and Webview2 Runtime 109 will be the last to support the operating systems, with a launch scheduled for January 12th, thus closing the long walk of the systems. From here you will no longer receive corrections, new features and security updates.

BUT: Microsoft browser grows on the Internet and among users

And the alert extends from individuals to companies using Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows Server 2012 and Windows Server 2012 R2, with version 109 also being the “swan song” of the respective OSes.

The technological giant warns that versions of the WebView2 Runtime higher than 109 will start to fail to start discontinued operating systems and advises users not to use them and to migrate to Windows 10 or higher. Likewise, it encourages developers to also end their technical support for operating systems, in order to keep users safe from potential risks and threats from January 10, 2023.

Remember that Microsoft intends to continue support for Windows 10 until October 14, 2025, in a decision that applies to the Home, Pro, Pro Education and Pro for Workstations versions of the operating system.
