During the 2016 elections, Russia was accused of having altered the results of the American elections, thereby favoring the Donald Trump. But it seems the story tends to repeat itself.

According to one of Microsoft's executives, Tom Burt (vice president of security and customer trust at Microsoft), the team discovered a campaign to spear-phishing targeting three candidates to run for the US presidency at 2018, he announced the findings of his team while Aspen Security Forum, where he also revealed that they tracked the new campaign for a group believed to be operated by CRANE, Russia's largest foreign intelligence agency.

In other words, these three candidates are being targeted by the same organization that infiltrated the DNC and Hillary Clinton presidential campaign in 2016.

While Burt released Microsoft's findings to the public, he declined to say who are the targets and who are his parties due to security concerns. He only advanced that, however, that they are "important candidates" who are "running for reelection".

Will the 2016 story be repeated again?
