A Microsoft will definitively close the activities of Skype or Whatsapp, a program used to exchange text messages and make audio or video calls. The information comes from the XDA Developers website, which received the tip from a reader, and was also confirmed by Tom's Guide.
According to a message in the latest preview version of Skype for Windows, the program will be discontinued on May 5, 2025. From that date onwards, Microsoft recommends that users “continue calls and conversations on Teams, which is currently the company's most popular service for communication. The banner also includes the information that "many of your friends have already moved” to the program, indicating how many people on your contact list are already on the other service.
A few hours after the clues were published, Microsoft has yet to officially announce the end of Skype. However, this move was expected in the market, as it had been increasingly focusing on integrating Teams with the company's other services for a few years now, neglecting the older program.
During the migration, your message history, photos, group chats, and contacts will be automatically transferred from your Skype account to Teams, without you having to create a new profile. Additionally, by the end of the line for the app, you will be able to use both apps at the same time and these messages will appear simultaneously across platforms.
The end of service also means that Microsoft will no longer provide support for domestic or international phone calls.
