Microsoft may give people control over their personal data

2594

Microsoft is working on a codenamed project “Bali“, Which is designed to give users control over the data collected about them. The project is an effort to incubate the Microsoft Research and appears to be in private testing at this stage.

The existence of the project came to the public through a tweet who described the Bali as "a project that can delete all your connection and account information (reverse privacy project)“. This page allows those who have a code to login to the site, and those who do not have a code can request one.

A page Bali describes it as a “new personal database that puts users in control of all the data collected about them”. This database will allow users to store all data (raw and inferred) generated by them, and will also allow the user to view, manage, control, share and monetize the data.

While not every Microsoft Research project turns out to be a product or service marketed in any way, today many people do that. So there is a possibility that the Bali project will become a commercially available entity at some point.

Will Microsoft really launch the project?
